Our sweet Oskar has arrived! Birthed at home, after a short and intense labour, he’s doing just great. He’s met his big brother, Kokum, Mosom and Uncle Ruarri already.

8:30 am, 7lb 6oz, 20.75 inches long.

Poor baby #2, already neglected.

Baby #2 ultrasound photo

The countdown to our second baby is going like this:

  • Baby is 37 weeks, 1 day.
  • I’m due in 20 days.
  • I have 6 days of work left.
  • We have a million things left to accomplish.

Yikes.

Finally three!, a photo by dulcie on Flickr.

H is three! He does a great robot voice, has an invisible friend named Ticky, loves to dance, loves chocolate, loves his mama and daddy and is learning to sleep in his own bed all night long with no crying. He still wants to read many many books, and his best friend is still Ally.

He loves his cousins and asks for them a lot. Mama drops him off at daycare now, and daddy picks him up. No daycare lunch reports anymore, since Nels works out at the international airport these days.

H is about 3′ 2″ tall, around 30 lbs. Still blond and blue-eyed, still wonderful.

Quickie update

Hugo and I are weaned! As of, Monday, I guess?

Tuesday night at dinner, Hugo was playing with his carrots, acting out a scenario.

The tiny carrot asked the big carrot, “Should we nurse?” The big carrot said “No no no!”

This was adorable and a wee bit heartbreaking for me.

Yesterday we attended the ESO’s Symphony For Kids concert. They had dancers and a choir and an aerialist: it was amazing.

The previous concert, Hugo spotted this ramp as a good place to race cars, but we didn’t have time or space to try it out. This time, though, we were prepared!

It was just as much fun as predicted.

Hugo, song interpreter

Posted on Sunday, November 6, 2011 in toddler, two years

(Listening to a Patty Griffin song in the car.)

Hugo: This is a sad song.

H: The girl is sad. He misses his mommy. He wants to go home with his mommy and Nurse! and eat chips and turn off the cat lamp and carry Hugo.

Me: (dead)

Today Hugo is Two!

Posted on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 in daycare, monthly update, two years

My sweet boy is two years old! While he’s been “practicing” the terrible twos for several months, I can’t wait to see the next changes in store.

Hugo is 2 today!

Some Hugo facts:

  • Hugo is very verbal and talks A LOT. Last night, he said “anenome” perfectly. I was floored!
  • This morning he peed in his potty for the second time ever (he requested an orange treat as his reward.)
  • We bought cupcakes for his preschool party and had a family birthday party on Saturday. After singing Happy Birthday to him this morning, he requested candles to blow out and cake.
  • Hugo loves Thomas the train, the characters in Cars/Cars 2 (though he’s never seen the movie) and Elmo/Cookie Monster/Grover from Sesame Street.
  • He still loves airplanes and helicopters, nursing, strawberries and pizza.
  • He likes to be carried or fed sometimes, but he also likes to do things “‘self”. He does not dress himself yet, but he has strong opinions on clothes; mostly, that he doesn’t want to wear them “anymore!”
  • He spends the first part of the night in his own room and crib, and comes to our bed around 11 or so.
  • Hugo loves music and likes us to help him identify instruments in songs. He says “woah, nice trombone” when Nels brings his instrument out. (snicker)
  • He has lunch with his dad every day, and often eats his poor dad’s food. He usually has fruit, yogurt and cheese along with a sandwich or pasta, with veggies. Hugo loves a quesadilla (yes, he can say quesadilla.) He would be happy to live on fruit alone, however.
  • Hugo loves to spend time with his Kokum and Mosom (my parents) – when they babysit, Hugo can barely be bothered to say goodbye.
  • He’s still sad to say goodbye to us when we take him to daycare, despite the super fun he has there. We miss him, too. We get amazing and cheerful welcomes when we pick him up, though!
  • His best friends at daycare are Athavan and Allie.
  • Hugo loves to play with his cousins, and talks about them often. He kissed and hugged baby Rowan a LOT at Nels’s birthday party. He misses his uncles, aunts and grandparents and talks about them, too. We tape up their photos on his bedroom door.
  • Hugo is still skinny, and can wear 6 month size shorts. Six month size pants fit his waist, except they are far too short! He is still very blonde, and his eyes are a deep grey-blue. Still no two-year molars!

Things I miss about baby Hugo:

  • Being called Mama, instead of mommy. Or, more recently, MoooooMMMMEEeeeeee! Or even, Dulcie. AHEM.
  • Two naps a day. Sigh.
  • Not fighting about wearing clothes.
  • No obsession with Thomas and Cars.

In summation: toddlers are awesome.

I’ll update this with a photo tonight.

Lunch update

Posted on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 in daycare, lunch report

[12:03] Nels: He ate shrimp and a bit of fruit, and then asked for yoghurt (before I arrived) of which there was none. I arrived, and he immediately hustled me for “Daddy’s yoghurt” of which he ate all. And 1/3 of my banana. And then the rest of HIS banana.

[12:04] Nels: Then off to his cot, from which he blew me kisses and waved goodbye.

[12:06] Nels: Also, after he finished off my yoghurt, he started asking for “Hugo’s yoghurt” and pointing to his lunch bag. I had to show him the empty bag before he’d be dissuaded.

Our voracious reader

[13:46] Nels: Mr. Man ate pretty well! He really really wanted to read a book *while* eating, which wasn’t allowed. Heh.
[13:46] Dulcie: hee hee hee
[13:46] Dulcie: he often wants to nurse and read a book, too.
[13:46] Nels: Our guy. *squeeze*
